Skulduggery had taken Val home, and returned to his own home. Delphian was still around, it was unsettling for her to look so young, like she used to when they were both actually fourteen.
“Delphian, really what brought you here?” She looked down.
“I…” She thought about what she was going to say. “I don’t know. Skulduggery, after what happened with Siren I’ve changed. I thought if I came here… back to you guys maybe I’d change back.”
“Del, you don’t need to change.” Her head shot up.
“I killed my ex-girlfriend Skulduggery.”
“You had a girlfriend?”
“Yes.”
“Why?”
“I thought I’d experiment.”
“How’d it go?”
“I picked a psychopath.”
“And you killed her?”
“Yes.”
There was an uncomfortable silence in the room. “If you hadn’t of picked a psychopath, how would it have been?”
“Really Skulduggery, I’ve just told you I’ve killed my ex-Girlfriend. You completely skip the whole killed thing, go straight to the girlfriend? Why?”
“It’s kind of hot imagining that.” She laughed at him, relaxing a bit.
“You sound young again.”
“It’s only since you’ve been here.” She smiled at the skeleton, and chucked a vial at him. “What’s this?”
“I promised didn’t I.” her smile turned sad.
“You managed it? How on earth did you do that! Even Kenspeckle said it was impossible!”
“I’m smart. And you know that better than most.” He nodded his head and looked at the little vial of clear liquid.
“What do I do with it?” He opened it and sniffed it. “How long does it last?” This made Delphian laugh.
“What would you say if I said it was permanent?” He face was weary as he lifted his skull.
“I’d say it’s not possible. It’s impossible to bring a dead person to life unless you…” He stopped dead. (LOL) “Unless you manipulated life itself…” His voice was low.
“You know my adept practice. It’s not brilliant as it’s taken hundreds of years for me to be able to do what an Elemental could do in a few months, but it’s worth it. And I have bombs and guns; I don’t need magic weaponry much. Let me do it for you, you have bones for hands.” She muttered the end bit and moved over to him, “This will probably sting a little, but you’re a big boy now.” She laughed quietly and took the vial from his hand and pulled him over to the sofa, laying him down, “It’ll probably
be quite uncomfortable too.”
“Probably.” He agreed as she poured most of the vial into one of his eye sockets, and he hissed. “Sting a little?!”
“Yeah, sorry that was a lie.” She undid the first button of his shirt, discarding his tie and see stopped. “Sorry, do you mind?” He shook his head and she continued. She poured the rest of the vial into a space where his heart would be, and it floated. She could see the heart already start building itself back and did his shirt back up. “Skul… It’s going to be really painful in a minute, do you want me to stay?” Her voice was low; she never liked seeing him in pain.
“Please.” His voice was a whisper and not long after, he started yelling.
It had been five hours and Delphian, the girl who never cries had tears streaming down her face. The salty liquid started trickling down her face ten minutes after the yelling had started, and at first she was shocked and wondering what it was dripping down her face, she hadn’t cried in years. This pain is meant to go on for two days.
It had been a day, and Delphian had decided to change back to how she should look. First she took Skulduggery and herself to the double bed upstairs, she was thankful that Valkyrie had talked him into getting it after she had to sleep on his old couch one time. When they were up there, she started the process, it was painful as always, but she kept in her screams, Skulduggery didn’t need to hear them. She still cried for the next twenty-four hours, even though she was weak, she still held his hand.
Skulduggery opened his eyes feeling incredibly strange, and very heavy. He turned over, recognising his upstairs bedroom. His hand was being clutched by a girl in her late teens or early twenties next to him, she was facing the other way so he pulled his hand towards him and she followed. He gasped and run his hand across her cheek. She looks so beautiful…
She stirred and Skulduggery froze, her eyes opened a much brighter emerald than when she’s in her younger self. He had never seen her with green eyes, at this age. When they turned this age, the war was in full swing, and her eyes were permanently red. He only realised the redness that surrounded them now and he was shocked… Delphian Alter Bleak had been crying? Delphian noticed how he was looking at her and she gasped, and covered her eyes.
“Don’t… Don’t hide them.” She blushed. “Wow, blushing and crying? Who are you?” She sighed
“I’m who I never got to be.” Her voice was a whisper and Skulduggery hugged her, it was perfect for the moment.
“Are you strong enough to get up?” He asked softly. She nodded and stood up with Skulduggery and made her way downstairs.
“Have you looked in the mirror Skul? You look just like you used to.” She placed a hand on his cheek.
He couldn’t hear her he was looking at her instead, her long black hair past her shoulders, and her perfect figure of shape and muscle. “Skulduggery?” She questioned, but he was still out of it. Alright
then, you asked for it.
Suddenly she pinned him against the wall even though he is a good foot taller than her, and she pushed her lips against his. His eyes widened and he stood in shock and stared at her once she pulled away.
“You listening now?” she asked, a smirk across her lips. He nodded, unable to speak, but just as she was about to carry on he switched places. He pinned her to the wall and kissed her back, she squeaked in surprise and kissed him back. After they finished, they were both breathless and then the door opened.
“OMIGOSH!” Tanith’s surprised yell made the pair jump and separate.
“Am I dreaming?” She said, looking genuinely shocked, “Skulduggery, you look like the pictures…And Delphian well... You look like your pictures but not evil and scary and bloody.” She laughed. “And it’s nice to see you back as you used to be when you were what, fourteen?” She teased now and Delphian flipped her off.
“Yep, definitely Delphian.”
All of them laughed their way through the rest of that day, and night.
